FAQ

What is the Westside Good Neighbor Center?

The Westside Good Neighbor Center is a place that people can come for emergency assistance twelve times in an eighteen month period.  We give food away at no cost to our clients.

Do I qualify?

Yes.  Everyone qualifies for the first year.

What do I need to have with me to qualify?

All you need is a current Kansas picture I.D. and proof of address.  You must have a Social Security card for each member of the family?

Why does the worker ask me about my relationship with Jesus every time I come in?

The primary purpose of the Westside Good Neighbor Center is to share about Jesus Christ with eveyone who comes in.  We explain that to be saved, you must accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and ask Him for forgiveness of your sins.  The more you hear about Jesus, the more likely you are to build a relationship with Him.

"Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes for the mouth of God." -Matthew 4:4

Who works at the Westside Good Neighbor Center?

The Westside Good Neighbor Center is run by volunteers. No one receives payment for time volunteered.  This allows us to use any cash that is donated to buy food that we will give away when we are low on food that has been donated.

How does the Westside Good Neighbor Center receive food?

The amount of food that you may choose is based on the size of your family.

Do you have anything for babies?

Baby products are not something we normally carry.  Occasionally, we do have formula and diapers donated.  Again, ask and we will give you what we have.

Can I receive help for more than a year?

If you are 65 years old or older, you may continue to receive benefits.  If you are younger than 65 years old and have already received benefits for one year, you can set up a time with the Director to review your case to see if we can assist you any farther.  At the time of making the appointment, we will give you a list of things that you will need to bring to the appointment.  All other clients can only receive help for one year then they must wait for one year.

Can I get food during the pandemic?

Yes, wear a mask and observe social distancing while checking in at the walk-up window.  Staff will do the shopping using your list and bring the food out to the pick-up table.

Please remember that everyone at the Westside Good Neighbor Center is a volunteer and we are doing our best to serve you.  We give God the glory for everything that He does through us to help you.
